This position will be located at Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality, and will be located at 2710 West Main, Jefferson City, MO 65109.

  • Train and work as a Laboratory Scientist in the Organic Chemistry Unit of the Chemical Analysis Section
  • Analyze drinking water, ground water, surface water, soil, and/or organic waste samples by various approved methods utilizing gravimetry, liquid chromatography, gas chromatography and/or mass spectrometry. Analysis includes sample preparation by an appropriate method; reagent preparation; instrument setup and operation; and data collection, interpretation and reporting into the Laboratory Information Management System
  • Conduct routine calibration and maintenance of instrumentation and equipment used in laboratory analysis; write and review Standard Operating Procedures; review data for completeness, accuracy and quality

To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:

  • Chemistry: Knowledge of chemicals, including hazardous materials, and their uses, interactions, dangers, production, storage, and disposal.
  • Self-Management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior.
  • Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Quality Assurance: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools of quality assurance and quality control used to ensure a product fulfills functional requirements and standards.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 30 earned credit hours in natural science (Environmental Science or Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Physical Science, Geology, Engineering, Agronomy, Forestry, Soil Science, Ecology, Wildlife Management, Agriculture, Animal Science, Natural Resource Management, Soil Conservation, Atmospheric Science, or closely related field). At least 12 credit hours in general chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, instrumental analysis, or similar coursework and laboratory courses preferred or 1-5 years of employment experience in analytical bench chemistry. Substitutions allowed.
