Specialty Medical Coder Location: Baltimore, MD (potential hybrid after 6-month contract) Shift: 1st Shift (Options: 6am-2pm, 7am-3pm, or 8am-4pm - must remain consistent once selected) Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire Job Description: We are seeking a detail-oriented and certified Specialty Medical Coder to join a collaborative and team-oriented department. This role focuses on coding procedures performed within a specialty department, ensuring accuracy and compliance with payer guidelines. Key Responsibilities: + Perform specialty coding for procedures using ICD-10 codes + Make edits and corrections to payments as needed + Communicate with insurance companies and clinics to verify proper coding and billing + Submit services for billing and ensure claims are clean and compliant + Work with Evaluation & Management (E&M) codes for office visits Qualifications: + Required: CPC or CPC-A certification + CPC-A candidates must have relevant healthcare experience (e.g., insurance, authorizations, claims) + Experience with ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding + Strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare billing + Prior experience in commercial payors and Medicare + Experience in a teaching hospital setting is required + Familiarity with Epic, Athena, GE, or IDX systems + Willingness to work on-site for the first 6 months, with potential for remote work based on performance Preferred Experience: + Coding in OBGYN or other specialties + Coding for surgeries + Experience with E&M Services Coding Employee Value Proposition (EVP): Join a respected healthcare organization in Baltimore known for its supportive, family-oriented team culture. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
